In Châtel, tradition and modern living come together …
Châtel has developed gradually over the years whilst maintaining its traditional village identity. Being a part of the fabulous Portes du Soleil ski area (14 French-Swiss resorts, 209 ski lifts, 650 kms of runs) encouraged this development, but the traditional balance has remained intact.
In winter, Châtel offers a choice of leisure activities, entertainments and events other than snowsports. For maximum enjoyment, the resort has invested in high quality infrastructures which reflect the top quality service the resort provides.
Alongside this, the farming industry still continues, generation after generation, to produce the wonderful Abondance cheese (“labelled origin” since 1990) … Today there are some 38 varieties.
The Abondance valley is made up of 6 villages, 3 of which are today tourism centred. One of these resorts is Châtel, proud to have kept its architectural heritage (characteristic farmhouses with embossed balconies). For this reason, the resort was awarded the « Pays d’Art et d’Histoire » label by the Ministry of Culture in the summer of 2003.
Such is life when you holiday in Châtel…
